Self-Esteem

Self-esteem is your overall sense of personal value and self worth. It impacts your motivation, success, and mental health. Those who suffer from low self-esteem might experience some of the following:

  • Feeling disappointed with the way you view yourself
  • Constantly comparing yourself to others
  • Wishing you looked different, were more educated, or more accomplished professionally, socially, or academically
  • Envying the lives that other people have
  • Feelings that you have fallen short of expectations

These are some signs of self-rejection and/or low self-esteem. Judging yourself harshly can cause you to distrust your abilities and your potential. This negative and critical self-talk is internalized and has a profound impact on the quality of your life and your happiness and contentment as a human.

Low self-esteem can prevent you from living your most fulfilling life. Those who struggle with low self-esteem often avoid social situations that could potentially be positive and fun because they assume people view them negatively. Others might miss out on career growth and advancement because they predict failure. They frequently keep their opinions and ideas to themselves due to fear that their point of view holds no value. Still others might avoid asking questions, accepting help, and speaking up.
